Tuesday in Sauze

The Matravers ski trip got off to a great start with a smooth coach trip over – the fastest time ever! We got our boots and skis sorted out and then went back to the hotel to shower and sleep ready for the first day of skiing.

After the weekend weather, Sauze was under a blanket of snow, unlike last year, and we saw people skiing back to the Sportinia lift on Monday which was a first. Though it was slushy at the bottom, conditions at the top were perfect after the wind had dropped and we have so far been treated to two days of blue skies and sunshine mixed with excellent snow conditions – not too icy, not too slushy. Monday was a holiday here in Italy too so the slopes were very busy but it's been very quiet today and Matravers have dominated on the slopes!

We've had some excellent comedy falls, particularly from Martha who managed to ski into a tree, and Callum who stopped the entire chair lift when Ryan tripped him up. Zach threw an excellent shape yesterday, gyrating one ski wildly in the air in his attempts to remain upright. Katie H commented today that she has fallen over a lot, but it's “really fun”. Here are some more comments from the students....
